Background and objectives of the case
The International University of Lake Constance (IBH) was founded in 2000 and is meanwhile the biggest cross-border inter-disciplinary network in Europe. A European wide acknowledged cooperation model of the International Lake Constance Conference (IBK). The IBH is a network of 30 universities in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. This means 100.000 students in over 300 study programs containing 30 educational fields with about 42.000 employees. It enables networking of researchers and employees within the IBH-network. The IBH-members significantly contribute together with local partners, to promote regionally relevant subjects of the Lake Constance region.

The network provides a huge potential for solving todays and future challenges. In order to strengthen the idea of designing and accompanying innovation processes together with the industry a project has been established running under the name “inno4regio”.

“inno4regio” means innovation for the region on the one hand and on the other hand innovation connecting the scientific community of the four countries around Lake Constance (Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria and Germany).

The basic idea is to have a single point of contact providing the ability of handling multi-disciplinary issues being generated by especially small and medium enterprises. Companies should be able to enter the innovation process at their point of interest. The innovation portal containing the mentioned wide range of scientific fields covering all types of universities shall be able to address different types of technology readiness levels.
